I'm not super familiar with the entire coast, but Nahant beach seems to be popular with surfers and especially kite surfers. I don't know what else you're looking for as far as housing or ammenities, but I think a number of communities on the North Shore would be a good fit. I live in the area and find it very open and welcoming. As someone already mentioned, there will be jerks wherever you go, but I'm sure you know that.

Best of luck in your research and decision.

You know the type. The dog whistles are deafening.
If this truly happened, then they surely would have voiced their complaint to the chief and then the town council (and so on) if that didn't get them anywhere. But yeah, the credibility of this is diminishing by the minute. Little Compton is many things, racist is not one of them. Go beat your drum elsewhere, buddy.

More baiting, more nonsense. That you don't like how your neighborhood is depicted, does not render those fact tellers as "racist" or "right wing "*****" jobs". According to you there are no ghettos anywhere in New England, and your posting history proves a long term absence of judgement when it comes to choosing neighborhoods to live in. You recently called one of the worst neighborhoods in Providence a "fun" area.

I take all comments for what they are, opinion, but collectively they tell a story you don’t get from visiting short term. North Shore sounds cool

Of course. Just beware, that some on forums such as these have strange motivations in what they post. I will say that most of the advice you received in this thread is pretty solid.

But if they're dropping $2-4 million on house, then it's day school at The Pennfield School through 8th grade and then to Tabor Academy for high school

Agreed. I love the fairly unique mix of coastal and agricultural land side by side. Since it's off the beaten path (and has a lot of preserved/protected land), it's not overdeveloped like most coastal communities. Pretty neat that you can buy lobsters off the boat and drive a mile to get fresh corn directly from the farm. But schools are a trouble spot. Unless you're willing to go private in which case there are a lot of options.

True enough. Be aware, many of the right wing smack talkers don't live in this area and never have, so a short trip is better info than their advice. The Mass forum is fairly helpful, but for your post in the RI forum, be especially wary that those (mostly right wing Trumpers) don't live in RI. Have never lived in RI. And those of us that do live in RI see their "advice" for what it is. Uninformed garbage. You may ask yourself why someone not interested in moving to state, and that has never lived in as state, is obsessively posting in a state forum... and you'd be wondering what we wonder. It an illness of sorts.

As usual you are WAY off sir. I can think of three of us regular posters on the RI forum who don't live in the state, and none of us are "right wing Trumpers". One is a liberal and the other two of us are totally non-partisan. And more importantly, despite not currently living there we are all FAR more knowledgeable on the state than you are for various reasons (and it shows). Out of all the regular RI posters, I can only think of one who is pro Trump and he lives in RI. The rest of the posters all live in the state, and are either extreme left like yourself or otherwise varying degrees of moderation.

For the sake of this forum (both MA and RI), I think most would appreciate you staying away from topics where you have nothing to contribute. And any local topic where you must mention Trump or "right wingers", take that as a sign that you are in over your head.

Just a guess, but I would think coastal NYC suburbs would offer the best environs for a mixed family with a LGBTQIA+ child.

Coastal Massachusetts/New England is notoriously Caucasian, less a few legacy fishing/whaling communities.

That being said, if you aren't so concerned about the racial makeup, the area is fairly progressive (especially in policy) and welcoming for LGBTQIA+. Rye, NH came to mind immediately.. Beautiful town, good surf, nice location. Westport, MA is a nice, idyllic "farm coast" town.. Some socioeconomic diversity there, and definitely a heck of a lot cheaper than other Massachusetts comps.

With your budget, and with a family, most newcomers look at Hingham, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Marblehead, Duxbury, Beverly Farms, and Newburyport.
