Well we can't deny that there are some less than desirable characters on the cape. How they got there or when they are there is unknown to me, but they're there. And I have no problem with the ones who keep to themselves and don't cause trouble, but plenty can't seem to do that.

Absolutely there are less than desirable characters on the Cape. The area around Main Street, with 40+ social service agencies, is a haven for the homeless. Do some research into the drug ring that was connected with *gasp* the Kennedy Compound, the Nauti-Block gang a stone's throw from that famous homestead, the stabbings on the town green, the woman who would do a daily sweep of the green and downtown for discarded needles - protecting the public and especially the children who attended the top rated Sturgis Charter and St John Paul HS. Students were not allowed to chase errant balls from sporting events or gym class into the fields near the schools because of the danger of encountering a pe
rson or needle. Do a search, for years the papers would run stories and pictures of the camps being bulldozed in preparation for the school year. Mental illness and the scourge of addiction, sometimes hand in hand are on full display.

The dramatic increase in homeless people has been shocking over the last few years.

Update:

Man accused of shooting Massachusetts trooper killed in gun battle with US Marshals

"A suspect in the shooting of a state trooper in Massachusetts was killed during a shootout with U.S. marshals in New York City early Friday that left two of the officers wounded.

The two marshals were injured in the 5:30 a.m. confrontation in the Bronx but were in good condition, according to a law enforcement official who was not authorized to discuss the incident publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.

Killed in the shootout was 35-year-old Andre Sterling, the official said. His gun was recovered."

Is a state trooper being shot more important than someone of a different profession being shot? Why the need for a separate thread?

Notable shootings and crimes are often posted here, in their own threads (regardless of their profession). If somebody else gets shot at while on the job in Massachusetts, feel free to create a new thread for it.

But there is also the...can you think of another instance where people are targeted by violence simply for their profession or the uniform they put on that day? I guess you can say (sadly) that anyone wearing a uniform (be it firefighters, EMTs, military, etc.) are a target these days, but not to the same extent as LEOs.

Any loss of life is sad, but this is more outrageous to me than most deaths:
