Advertisements

I noticed in a photo of the interior of the park taken a few days before the opener that a large Black Lives Matter banner hangs in the upper left field grandstand, among all the many other ads marring aesthetics throughout the outfield.

I wonder if all ballparks will display that this season?

Maybe Target Field in Minneapolis, especially?

Unsure if TD Garden has that message this season.

There were several Fenway staff whose job it was to just walk around holding signs that said mask up.

All in all, there was minimal enforcement of distancing, though. Once I saw security break up a line at a concession stand, but otherwise people mingled as usual. Just a lot fewer people mingling.

Interesting. On TV it looked like it was handled very well. I like how they tied the seats in the upright position so that people can't just sit wherever they want.

On a side note, I have to say...Kim Janey is pretty awesome.

Some of the poor ushers were also spending the first couple hours chasing down breaking the zipties on some chairs because, as our usher put it, "there's a 50/50 chance they ziptied your seats too."

I was honestly expecting a bit tougher entrance with all of the build-up talk about enhanced screening and questionnaires, but in the end it was still walk through the metal detector, scan your ticket, and be on your way. The only notable difference in security was they made you hold your cell phone and cross your arms in front of you rather than put your phone in the little cups they used to have you do.

Every other urinal was closed off (covered in white plastic) in the bathrooms but all stalls were open, so you were still talking 3 or so feet at best of distancing in the bathrooms.

Liverpool beat Arsenal 3-0 yesterday. Fenway Sports Group owns one good team. Their first leg Champions League quarterfinal against Real Madrid is Tuesday afternoon.

And Arsenal is owned by Stan Kroenke - another US businessman who also owns the LA Rams, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rapids, Colorado Mammoth, LA Gladiators, and LA Guerillas.

Which puts him at poverty level relative to Sheikh Mansour who owns Manchester City. $20 billion vs an embarrassing $7 billion. He’s barely worth more than Bob Kraft. LOL

But he gets so much more value for his $7 billion - Kraft has only one team. Besides, his wife is a Walton. I'm sure there's many more billions in her account.
