At least 6 buildings are on fire in Lawrence. On the news they said the smoke was so thick that the entire city was in darkness when it was still daylight.

Spectators were a problem, in come cases preventing firefighters from reaching the scene. Hard to believe some people...

"Fire Chief Brian Moriarty said it was a challenging fire to knock down, noting that the weather, as well as spectators, posed problems.

"We had a lot of problems because -- one, the congested area,” he said. “Two, the wind picked up and we had extremely heavy fire on arrival. And three, people wouldn't get out of our way. It was too interesting to come see a fire and they prevented us from getting in.”"

Isn't it a hallmark of third world cities when hordes of people milling about prevent emergency and/or construction crews from doing their jobs?
