Teens and adolescents are raging with hormones and curiosity is bound to get the better of most of them when they have immediate access to pretty much anything they can imagine any time they want. Plenty of very good parents have kids who have looked at porn. I think its important to set boundaries, but it’s naive to think boundaries (or any amount of good parenting) are enough to overcome the combination of adolescent curiosity and instant access.

Of course the taboo factor plays a part, if it weren't I imagine far more people would be viewing it at work, around their wives, etc.. Which is my point. Just because one partakes in something in adolescence, doesn't mean they weren't "taught". It's those who partook AND weren't taught, who have the hardest time meeting social expectations and functioning in an adult society in general.

Couple of points here--where's the state law that says women can't be topless, right now? Maybe this thing in Nantucket is totally unnecessary. And if there is such a law, it would be a state law and Nantucket wouldn't have the power to change it.

Second, women being topless has been legal in New York for decades, and yet it's pretty rare for anyone to do it there. It's just not the custom in the USA, and even if it's legal, I doubt if that would change.

And let's ask who's pushing for this law in Nantucket, women or men?

There is no more basic freedom than the right to enjoy good health and stay alive. So it's all consistent.

It's called open and gross lewdness under Mass law.

Nude beaches have been on marthas vineyard for a while...Lucy Vincent beach is one of them. I remember being on a walk with my dad and I dont know if we accidentally ended up on a nude section but I remember seeing a naked guy and girl just standing there. I said to my dad, Daddy those people have no clothes on. He just said, I know.

I'm not sure the incident scarred me but me I've always remembered it! And it wasn't the boobs that I remember....

I dont really think topless is naked.

I guess if someone is that concerned about their kids seeing topless people at the beach they should avoid the beach.

We go to a pretty family oriented beach on the cape and there's been a few times we've seen girls with thong bikinis on with their whole butt hanging out. They are pretty revealing but my kids havent really noticed. Theyre at the age where they might notice someone topless but I am not worried.

Is it horrible that all I can think about is the sunburn?
