This trooper Proctor seems like a piece of work. I don't think it'll change the facts though. What the defense is proposing is pretty far-fetched as far as how he was killed. But if Proctor botched things, she may be found not guilty because of reasonable doubt. Kind of like Fuhrman's role in the OJ trial...

It seems kind of like that's the approach. Especially since the defense is not technically allowed to discuss a third party culprit (though they did come right out and say she was framed).

Obviously they have and will continue to make the case for her innocence. But they'll likely also continue push hard to discredit the entire investigation. Even if they don't get the jury to return a not guilty verdict, they could sway enough of the jury to deadlock it (and get the judge to declare a mistrial).

Wasn't that just for the opening statements?

LRFOX is saying a third party culprit can't be discussed. I think that's wrong. I think that only applies to the opening statements.

Maybe I'm confused then. Wasn't the first words of the defense in opening statements: "Karen Read was framed" ?

Yeah, they were. But the defense was "barred from using the 'third party culprit'" defense in their opening statements (though they are allowed to argue that someone else killed O'Keefe as part of her defense throughout the trial). I'm not sure how "Karen read was framed" differs from a "third party culprit," but thankfully (for her), I'm not her defense attorney.

Her attorney definitely toed the line. He didn't come out and specifically say in opening the name(s) of other parties who killed him. Rather, he alluded to it by saying she was framed.
