It's not "no one wanting to work." It's no one wanting to work in horrific conditions for little pay. Particularly if the pay would not cover the cost of gas and childcare.

I have no idea what the pay is to work at a wedding or an event, that's what we're talking about here right? Working a wedding or event isn't typically a 9-5 type job and not everyone has kids. Apparently this worked for decades with people working at weddings and other fancy events?

I honestly don't care if that whole industry collapsed. I'm sure it's caused plenty of people to go into debt or spend retirement money, or just money that should have spent on something else but someone was pressured into having a big fancy party to celebrate some milestone.

My mom's friend's woke up the day after her daughters wedding and said, I cant believe i just spent 100k on that. The question is why do people do it...? apparently anything less than 75k these days is crappy.

No sweet 16's but I didn't realize until I left Western, MA that Jack and Jill and/or Stag parties were not a thing outside of that area. For those who Don't know they are basically wedding fundraisers where you sell tickets for $20, rent out an white ethnic named hall (Portuguese, Polish, Italian) get a keg, some food, and friends/family donate raffle items.

Some poster from that area mentioned those a couple of years ago. I had never heard of them and thought they sounded like the tackiest thing ever.

In a bubble the sound tacky but when there are ones going on every other weekend, people basically do that instead of going out. My father owned an insurance agency and would have a pile of tickets for sale pretty much every week for a different customer's kid. His other customers would usually sell out the pile.

I'm Italian, and this is the first time I've heard of this.

I was able to track down a Menu

Jack & Jill Menu - Wyckoff Country Club

I think this only happens in Hampden and Hampshire county, MA.

They do things like that at Florian hall in Dorchester all the time. It’s usually a benefit for something but really just seems like an excuse to get people together and drink
