That said, in small town Nebraska there are cross intersections in neighborhood housing areas with NO signage. Not all of them, but plenty. People that live here do tend to slow down and look, but they're looking becauase they KNOW nobody has a stop (or yield) sign. If it's your first time, you'd better hope another first timer's not there at the same time.

I don’t get it. The Massachusetts driving standard is that the heater car has the right of way over the expensive car. Garbage trucks rule over all. If you’re stuck at a T intersection, you wait for the Tesla and pull out.

That was pre-2020.

Now, you need $10K+ just to buy a new beater car given the used car market. People are reconsidering how badly they want to play chicken with another car.

Why don’t they? Because you’re in Massachusetts

Just sold my 13 year old Accord with 190k miles on it for 5k. Nothing will with it, I just wanted an upgrade Plenty of used Hondas and Toyotas in that price range.

I just turned in my lease and leased a new car. Finding a car was an absolute nightmare.

I had five models of car across two brands that were my top choices to lease. I probably called about 15 dealerships looking for one single car to lease. Out of all those dealerships and possible models I was willing to lease, I was able to find one car on a lot that met my needs and one car that was being built and would likely be on the lot in 4-6 weeks that also was acceptable. Every other dealer told me I'd have a car in 6 months minimum. My top choice car I was told I couldn't have any earlier than sometime in Q1 2023. So, I went with the car I found on the lot because I knew interest rates were on the rise, I had a timeframe I needed to meet, and the equity I had in my lease was likely only to go down and not up while the inventory issues I was facing were unlikely to go away in the near future.

If you are shopping for a new(er) car right now it's a bit of a PITA. I'm finding 1-2 year old cars with ~20K miles on it selling for what MSRP is on a 2022 model with 0 miles and full warranty intact.

I figure I might as well buy brand spanking new, except that what's on the lot is rather sparse, or an optioned out model. Dealers telling me 6+ months to order the one i want.

I put my search on hold for now. I'm curious to see how the market is by the end of this summer.

Just curious if you have you tried Carvana? If so, what is your opinion of it?

I know what you mean, from the seller's end. I bought my 2011 Sienna AWD minivan in 2013 after a 2-yr lease, for $19K. Sold it to Carmax this past January for $18K, after 65K miles on it!

I've never used it. Did a search for the vehicle in the trim level I want and it's the same deal as the dealer. 1-2 year old model with half the warranty allotted miles gone selling for near or at MSRP. I might as well buy brand spanking new.

I'll probably sell my current car to carmax/carvana. I figure i drop in and get the car appraised before I go to the dealer to see about the trade.
