Looks like an experimental thing but I'm guessing others will follow suit. I'm not sure I see the point of being open until 7 on Wednesday, but ok. I'm sure someone will stop by.

A town down by me in NJ did that and productivity went way up.

My company is sticking to five days but possibly will switch.

This started on May 2. Not sure why it is being reported now.

Staying open until 7 one day a week allows residents to conduct business without having to take time off from work. Here in Burlington, the hours are M,T,R 8:30-4:30, W 8:30-7, F 8:30-1.

Give flexibility to those who work a 9-5 and can't just take work off to take care of varius things.

I believe the RMV does a similar thing staying open to 7pm on Thursday. I used to take advantage of this before i had a flexible job.

Really curious to see how this will turn out. I could see it being effective in the private sector, but in the municipal world where there is little fear of being fired and nepotism runs wild and inefficiencies are the norm I just can't imagine a reduction in total hours worked (but not a reduction in pay) would have a positive impact.

Call me cynical if you want but the way most government organizations are run is just horribly inefficient and I don't see reducing the work week as a solution to that problem because it's a systemic one.

I work in that field. A four day work week condenses activities to become more efficient.

Most govt inefficiency comes from slow performance/little care/no desire to work faster.

Per the article, they are going to be open more hours than they were.

I mean, all those councilcritters and townhallcritters could have a zero day work week and no one would even notice.
