I've an old small tool/key that is clearly stamped with the name of the town.
Definitely have missed things searching before but so far, haven't found reference to this town.
I realize you said clearly, but sometimes old/antique items have a funny, outdated way of writing a letter. An "f" can look like a "b" or an "o" can really be a stylized d.
I took a photo and enlarged it.
There's a smaller second line that does show something before that first O....so is either Foxboro or Boxboro.
Thanks...Guess I shouldn't have given up so soon.
It wouldn't be Boxboro because the lower part of the B would show given the spacing.
It is common, now and historically, that [N]-borough is also spelled [N]-boro in Mass. towns and villages. That said, Mass. doesn't have boroughs as a municipal category - and, unlike in the British Isles, borough has no necessary indication of city or city-like status.
It could have been some mill village name 150 years ago back when a village was a mill with a water wheel, a few houses, and not much else. There were tons of those places in the state.

I was thinking that too but there's no online mention of it and normally there is some type of historical reference to anything these days.
That's the logo for Gretsche musical instruments, founded in 1883. I imagine it's a tool used for adjusting the strings on a guitar. I don't see any manufacturing operations in Mass however.
EDIT: Now that i look at the pic a bit more, it's possible it's two items and the Gretsche item was just propping the one in question
This part is correct...sorry 'bout that.
