Massachusetts has such a low birth rate the state would decline and eventually collapse if we didn’t have a bunch of immigrants. The workforce population wouldn’t be able to support the retirees after a few decades. If we didn’t need them we wouldn’t make program to lure them here. Our politicians aren’t total idiots.
What about people waiting for their green cards, student visa, work visa will they get red carpet when they come to Massachusetts?
maybe some of them would like to stay on MV. It's an upscale island off the coast of MA. It's not like it's Detroit or Ferguson, MO.
Yeah there's certainly worse places they could wind up. Many don't realize that the island doesn't completely shut down off season, and that there is still a need of workers. Housing is of course an issue, but they find a way to make it work for others (like the year round Brazillians there).

If you read the globe many of them asked to be taken off the island immediately. The island is entering the offseason and will have next to no employment for them because theyll be competing with other immigrants. And even less hosuing. Its a needless burden on MV when there's a city better equipped to take them that 15 minutes north via plane.
There's really no justification for sending them to MV- you cant find one.
Realistically as young en looking for work they'd be much better off in Detroit. Ultimately I guess they'll get bussed to the mainland.
Very trash. Boston could've handled these folks without a blip the same way they did Haitians and Puerto Ricans after natural disasters. Ron DeSantis jsut wants to make a headline. That not leadership, it's shameful in its negligence and lack of consideration for the people of MV and the migrants.
This doesn't excuse DeSantis, he is a leader and (should be) held to much higher standards than this. But had the limo liberal voters in places like MV shown similar compassion for people in places like FL and border states, we wouldn't be in this situation to begin with. It sort of goes both ways.

Sort of but cmon. why are you dropping this burden on tiny Marthas Vineyard? Are those really the limo liberal voters. Most year-round people in MV are Democrats but not exactly wealthy and certainly not in limos.... they already take in immigrants too. That is just bullying. Not governing.
It doesn't seem to me that the receiving of these folks is the problem. The larger issue is how it was handled. These human beings were treated only marginally better than trash. How would you like it if someone dropped you off in the middle of the Brazil and expected you to be able to find your way?
I don’t think they came to MV against their will or empty handed.
As long as they were told the truth about where they were going, I see no problem at all. A publicity stunt perhaps, but a non-story and the media's fault for turning it into one.
"The Florida statement refers to two planes, but local officials at Martha's Vineyard say there was only one.
However, a number of migrants told NPR their flight originated in San Antonio, and that they were being transported to Boston.
NPR confirmed that a plane originated in San Antonio, made a stop in Florida and then another stop in South Carolina before flying on to Martha's Vineyard. But apart from that layover, the migrants NPR interviewed had not spent time in Florida."
NPR was able to interview three of the migrants late Wednesday. "They (the migrants) told us they had recently crossed the border in Texas and were staying at a shelter in San Antonio," NPR's Joel Rose said on today's Morning Edition.
The migrants said a woman they identified as "Perla" approached them outside the shelter and lured them into boarding the plane, saying they would be flown to Boston where they could get expedited work papers.
"We have talked to a number of people who've asked, 'Where am I?' And then I was trying to explain where Martha's Vineyard is."
