I'd guess your class rank and SAT scores are nothing like theirs. I'm from a very socioeconomically mixed town. The top-20% of my graduating class did very well. They were generally a bit brighter than average and had good parenting. We had a USMC Brigadier General, a bunch of physicians, some university profs, and lots of more generic white collar professionals. Like any school, the kids who do sports, activities, and AP classes in a New Bedford or a Fall River generally hang out together in a reinforcing social group have a good outcome.

As a matter of public policy, you fund public schools in those places to present that educational opportunity.
You are cherry picking. I randomly picked a not so great high school in a not so great city in WV (Woodrow Wilson in Beckley, which has a lower HHI and higher poverty rate than Fall River) and compared it to Durfee. Here is what I came up with.

Percent proficient reading.

Woodrow Wilson: 48%
Durfee: 41%

Percent proficient math.

Durfee: 30%
Woodrow Wilson: 26%

Average graduation rate.

Woodrow Wilson: 86%
Durfee: 80%

Average SAT.

Woodrow Wilson: 1130
Durfee: 1130

AP enrollment.

Woodrow Wilson: 19%
Durfee: 13%

That "100% state funding" courtesy of the "super educated" MA residents sure is paying dividends for those Fall River folks.

But go on talking about "inferiority complexes" or whatnot, as you anxiously await for January 1st so you can run out to Aldi with your newly charged EBT card (while you're on here bragging about your sailboats and ski resorts...). That 14-day free trial to YouTube TV run out by now?

Angry? Nah. Just hate ignorant people. Loads of people on this forum would love living one place I did research in, Dawson Springs, KY, which is the HQ of the KKK. People here would fit right in.

Project much?

Remind us about the leaf blower you mailed to Portland, OR in the middle of the riots (that you tried claiming were the mastermind of "right wingers"). And that one little time you admitted to blocking I-95...yeah I would take a little step back there buddy.

Of course GeoffD is basing this all on his own high school graduating class.

Not sure how this thread got to the point of talking about kkk. Thanks timberline.

I have a power boat. I sold the sailboat 3 seasons ago. Get your facts straight.

My 14-day YouTube TV trial ran out a week into World Cup. I'm now on the $55/month subscription which I will cancel shortly. I won't need FOX after the Raiders game on Sunday.

Aldi, Market Basket, the fish market, and a couple of specialty markets are my usual food shopping. I'll be in an H Mart later today. If I weren't married, I'd qualify for an EBT card. I'm not showing much income for the 2022 tax year. I didn't pull any tax deferred stuff or sell stock. I hope you have a nice wage slave day.

I provided a link to the Durfee 2022 graduating class. Like usual, your reading comprehension is abysmal. Here's New Bedford High School class of 2022. The valedictorian went to Brown.

Again, these are among the worst of the school systems in Massachusetts. They have plenty of students doing the AP, sports, and extra curricular track who have very good outcomes.

Please quit cherry picking with your "top of the class". You know perfectly well that a Durfee High grad is more likely to spit out a few kids by 22 (out of wedlock) and enter a life of Section 8 and career at Subway, than attend Brown or Northeastern. How about the big picture here, like taking a look at my comparison to Beckley, WV (since I believe you were who first brought WV into this discussion).

With all the b---ing and moaning that goes on about Mass in these forums, I think it's nice to have a thread or two that looks at the positives now and then, to remind us that hey, maybe it's not perfect - winter is cold and the cost of living is high, but beyond that, there are also a lot of real positives about this state - our home.

For those that won't tolerate looking at the half of the glass that's full, why don't you take up meditation, or better yet, just move? If it's that bad here, why are you here? Go somewhere else and see if the grass is greener. I suspect that many of the malcontents will be just as unhappy in another state.

The point is that even the worst cities in Massachusetts have the funding to provide the educational opportunity to escape generational poverty. As someone I figure was a C average High School grad with lousy SAT scores, you'd rather focus on the ones who didn't escape that cycle generational poverty since it makes you feel superior despite being quite mediocre.

Nobody ever said it was a bad state boss, just trying to find some humor in this garbage clickbait link and the great irony that exists here. Like with my example, in this state full of geniuses we can't even figure out basics like running a transit system. I don't consider myself a glass half empty type, but I'm also not blind to some very serious issues and long term decline in QOL. A state this wealthy and "educated", we should really be ashamed of ourselves in the assets we have squandered. We should be doing "so" much better than we are, and the kool-aid drinkers like yourself are what enable the shenanigans going on.
