I wonder why a woman wouldn't check out a guy's background, which would have been in the public record? Especially when dating someone that much older? How tragic though.

I dunno...sadly some women can be desperate and maybe don't care about the background? She had a child as well, doesnt sound like it was his.

It's weird how the sketchiest "people" can easily rent a hotel room for a night or more, just by showing an id and a credit card (even cash is allowed in some hotels, I think?).

No background checks on guests. Not like an apartment; that would be too time-consuming and any denial of a room leads to lost money, of course.

But to think one could stay at the Ritz or similar as long as I have enough money on a credit card, an id...even if otherwise in poverty and on probation and couldn't pass a simple background check in real life..

That's all it takes to stay at the Four Seasons or such -- or am I missing something about how it all works, whether a Holiday Inn or at luxe hotels?

And to think, what if a youngster wandered the hall to fill his family's ice bucket, or whatever...and there's a chance he hears gunshots or simply even encounters such lowlifes!?
