This is a fancy little shop in Boston's premier shopping district. Unfortunately there isn't much that can be done. It's not the type of place where you pull out a gun or get in a fist fight.

I wonder if store owners and employees are allowed to have mace or pepper spray? Not even sure ift the difference. Maybe I varies by state or city. Regardless, maybe most do carry pepper spray.

This story is sickening! Can't even have nice things anymore on Newbury Street or anywhere else in America and elsewhere, it seems.

I was on Newbury Street near 10 pm last night at Levain Bakery; had no idea what had occurred earlier that day! I usually feel safe on Newbury Street even at 10 pm or probably even later.

What a shame.

Different situation in your own home. I'd have gun out instantly, but it would be in your best interest to not put 7 warning shots in their back as they try to flee.

The only thing you should say to cops is "I was in fear for my life" and call a lawyer.

What is minimum stolen goods for which they can be charged? (this is another crazy law)
Is it now up to $1,200, maybe $1,400 nowadays. Used to be much, much lower, I believe?

And I'm sure the thugs realize the amount they're "allowed" to help themselves to. Heck, no need to wait until payday like most normal folks need to.

I said all along that nobody will take action until yuppies start getting mugged in the Back Bay. Maybe this stuff will be a wake up call for the liberals, who might finally start having second thoughts about the loonies they elect and thug loving policies they support?

This is how people end up ruining their lives. It's not worth it.

Here...

Larceny of goods valued under $1200 is a misdemeanor offense, punishable by up to 1 year in jail or a $1,500 fine. In order to be convicted of larceny, the prosecution must prove that you intended to actually take the property of another person.
So was it shoplifting or robbery (breaking&entering)?

It wasn't breaking & entering. The shop was open for business.

I guess they need some sorts of security guards or something... but this will make everything even more expensive.

They don't even seem to be shy...
