This kind of thing seemed more prevalent in CA....guess these thugs are doing it here now too. Day light raids of high end boutiques. WATCH: Shoplifters steal hundreds in merchandise from Newbury Street boutique - Boston News, Weather, Sports | WHDH 7News

Must be frustrating to not be able to do much. I hate to say it but maybe these store owners need to keep a gun on them or hire security. No store owner should have to helplessly watch their stuff get stolen and there probably isn't much the police can do.

so it's ok to shoot someone who shoplifts an item in your store? There's plenty the police can do about that.

MA still frowns upon using deadly force to protect property.

Unless your life (or someone else's) is directly threatened with imminent danger to life (and the bar is higher than say, FL), don't even unholster a gun in the state of MA or your precious LTC is going bye-bye. Just MYOB and walk the other way.

If someone is stealing something that isn't theirs and THEN threatens to spray the owner with pepper spray if they come near them...I dont see anything wrong with threatening them with a gun...not saying they have to use it...but to stand there and watch it all happen seems useless.

Nope. You can't do that for someone stealing property. It's not worth it. You'd likely face charges for something (brandishing most likely). Outside in public, you can't point a gun at folks unless it's a VERY GOOD reason (imminent bodily harm to you or someone else).

If you, John Q Public walk into target with an LTC and gun on you and see someone running out with a TV (and nobody in danger), just let them go. You'll probably spend thousands of dollars in legal fees after such an incident if you decide to play hero..

Again, not saying I agree with this, it's just the unfortunate reality of living this state and having a concealed weapons permit.

Yes, we can only protect ourselves.
It is even stricter

Quote:
Under this doctrine, anyone who believes their life is in danger can lawfully use deadly force. Unlike some other states, Massachusetts does not have a stand-your-ground law. Instead, you have a duty to retreat before using deadly force outside of your dwelling
What is minimum stolen goods for which they can be charged? (this is another crazy law)

Plenty of store owners might use their two fists on someone stealing from their store.
