I noticed my car insurance went up a few months ago. I sent a note asking what happened to my agent and they basically said yeah everyone's is going up. My husband just got his bill and his went up by $600 a year. They pretty much said the same thing to him and said someone else would call him back. A quick google search and i found this:

Why Is Auto Insurance So Expensive In Massachusetts?
Massachusetts has some of the highest auto insurance costs in the country. Many factors contribute to these high costs. The state is densely-populated with the majority of its drivers living in urban areas where accidents are more likely to happen. In addition, Massachusetts' higher cost of living means higher costs for medical care, auto repairs and litigation costs.

The bottom line is that Massachusetts has more property damage and bodily injury claims per vehicle than nearly every other state. As the number of claims increases, so does the cost of insurance. When claims decrease, insurance rates decrease as well.

That’s nuts. I’m with Mapfree and haven’t seen these sorts of increases…yet.

I had a big increase for my auto policies. The more uninsured drivers on the road the more the insurance companies are going to have to raise rates to compensate. Something tells me we have a unprecedented number of new uninsured drivers in Mass...

Yep. Once again we pay for what others aren't paying for. Disgusting.

Paying for all these low lifers to drive like complete a holes, cause crashes and not have to suffer the consequences of their actions is the worst. Yet, if/when one of them hits you and you've been paying your insurance on time all along....the insurance company can string you along and lowball you on your claim payout. Another system that needs reform....the whole insurance industry!

Probably all the car thefts contribute to higher costs, too. I live in the mid-Atlantic area now and my car insurance policy only increased $13 for the entire 6-month period. But neighbors have told me they had big increases in premium.

I know there have been a lot of thefts with Kias and Hyundais reported. However, I don't drive either of those so why should my or anyone else's premium have to go up to make up the slack b/c Joe Smoe's Kia got stolen?! The Kias and Hyundais should have higher rates if they're known to be easier to steal. Don't jack up everyone elses to make up the slack!

You are correct! Maybe their rates are higher.

We pay $1100 for two brand new cars. We do have clean records and live outside of Boston. It really depends on city/town.
I wouldn’t call Massachusetts rates very high… some other states are way higher

Wow, $1100 for 2 new cars. You have a very good deal. I pay more than double that for a 1 year old car w/clean record!
