I've read so many threads from some posters here about being young and living on Cape Cod. My own daughter and her friends (all recent high school graduates) couldn't/can't wait to join the "exodus". There's actually a facebook page dedicated to "nothing to do on Cape Cod".

Which made this article in yesterday's Cape Cod Times of particular interest to me.

Some who escape Cape drawn back home | CapeCodOnline.com

I guess, once some of our kids leave, they gain a new appreciation for how they've grown up and the somewhat sheltered lives they've lived. And they want it back.

I thought it was also somewhat funny that many of those who were home on Holiday break were posting statuses on their FB's this past weekend with the sentiment "Goodbye for now, Cape Cod :-( "

No doubt they are missing "home" which is normal for anyone at college, but it would seem they are already realizing the grass ain't necessarily greener and there's no place like home.

Great article Cathy. Having lived here just after college (and an admitted party girl who thoroughly enjoyed the best of both worlds, the Cape and Boston!), I wanted to come back to raise my family here. My kids, who we moved here last year as teens, still point out the differences between life here and where we previously lived. They miss some of the conveniences and friends we previously had but love the differences. I only need to go on the social networking sites the kids frequent to see the vast difference in the kids and how much faster these kids near the city seem to be. No area is without it's issues as they exist everywhere but kids here seem to be faced with some of these things at a later age and hopefully, that makes them better able to handle them and realize the consequences that could result from poor choices.

It is articles like that which reinforce my desire to stay on the Cape. I have only been here 6 years, but I love it....and I hope my son appreciates the area he will grow up in, too!

I was raised on the Cape and until July 2008 had my Mother's home there. I have been in Texas for 40 years and I still call Ma. my home and I love it when each year we go to North Attleboro to visit my Aunt. I love the Cape and as I have always said"You can take the girl out of the Cape, but you will never take the Cape out of the girl." I love Cape Cod!!
