When I read about that murder, I read that gay couples in Boston, MA are getting abused more than ever post MA same-sex marriage ruling.

I was born in NC and it does have a special place in my heart. There are some progressive towns, but growing up there, I found it to be oppressive and un-accepting. Times and attitudes are changing, but in my mind it was the place where I was in the closet. I am free to marry my partner in MA and now CT. So, New England is the place for me.

Arlington I find on the whole is like a real liberal haven. Seems to be more of a hipster population than Medford for sure.

Have you ever been to Newburyport? I live and work here and I would have to say that it is not only gay friendly but I see more and more gay men and women moving here from other parts of the state. The affordability, culture, nature, and commuter rail are bringing many new residents to the area.
