Dunno what kind of work you're looking for, but there are a lot of suburban office parks, tech companies, corporate headquarters, etc. north of Boston. I'm not sure anyone needs to consider the city itself for employment unless there's a fairly specific job.

We are both in the healthcare industry, RN and Psych Therapist. I'm sure theres no shortage of these sorts of jobs here.

Newburyport, Ipswich area
I would suggest looking at Newburyport, Ipswich, Rowley, Rockport, Salem, etc. all of which are interesting communities and have commuter rail access. Hamilton/Wenham is nice as well. Many of these towns are quiet
