Hi everyone,
I have a possible job lined up in Hanover, MA (Hanover Public Schools). I would be moving from Annapolis, MD.... Where would you all suggest that I live if I decide to take this job? I'm a 31 year old female, married, and I have friends in Boston (I'd like to be able to go to Boston on the weekends). I was thinking of Quincy, close to the Red Line, but are there any other areas you all would recommend? The tricky part is that I know the rent prices in and around Boston are very high. My job would pay around $66,000/year, and I have a car that I would use to commute to work, so I would need a parking space. I would also not want to commute more than 20 minutes by car to work (My current commute in Maryland is 50 minutes each way!!! I hate it!!!). I don't have any pets or children, and my husband would NOT be moving with me. So, I could swing a studio apartment. I don't need anything large or fancy. Proximity to the T and safety are important as I would be living alone. I'm still in the planning phase of this, but I wanted to gather information and ideas. Thank you!!!

Quincy or Braintree would make sense and they have plenty of rentals available.

Does your husband know you are planning on moving?

Yeah, I was considering those places... Is Braintree reasonably safe? Haha, yes.. we've discussed it. He would eventually move, but we would do long distance for a while. How about Wollaston, or other towns on the Red Line? Of course I'd love to live in Cambridge/Somerville/Boston, but it's too far and expensive.. Sigh.

I would consider Weymouth possibly? It's not directly on the red line for train transportation into the city, but it's pretty easy to get to a T-Stop or drive straight into the city, and any place you find will more than likely have a parking spot for you.

Plus getting on RT 3 to Hanover would be a breeze, and give you back road options if there's ever traffic.

Quincy would be a good choice, I would think. The Wollaston Hill area is very nice and close to the train station. In general Quincy should have a fair amount of rental possibilities within your budget. You will also be commuting to work against traffic so the morning drive shouldn't be a bad one.

How often do you plan on using the T? Is paying the premium $$$ to live in Quincy or Braintree really worth it, as opposed to Weymouth let's say where you would still be an easy trip (and closer to work where I assume it's 5 days a week)?
