If I am a 19 year old, full-time student, working 20+ hours a week, and my own income limits are qualified, (but not my family's income), can I get food stamps even though my parents have claimed me as a dependent?
Every state has different rules, I don't know however why at 19 you would need a letter of emancipation.
If you have no dependent child and no handicaps that keep you from working, there are going to limit how long you can get foodstamps for. I live in Florida now and in this scenario they will only give you help for 3 months with the assumption that being healthy and with the dependent child, there is no reason you can't work.
You don't have to live on your own to get foodstamps. When I was pregnant, I lived with my parents for awhile and was able to get foodstamps.
AGAIN, the rules in your state could be different, however I am going to assume that your parents claiming you as a dependent on their tax return will make it fraud for you to claim foodstamps. The amount of money they are going to give a single healthy male probably isn't going to be much but there is no harm in checking into it.
Here in Florida you can apply online and then fax them the support documents that they require. They even will do a same day phone interview and no need to go into the office at all.

Let's make a deal. Tell me how much you are paying for this young couple's food stamps or WIC and I will cut you a check for 2x that amount if you take down your post.
You obviously took something away from this post that I didn't. While I lament and often disdain those who abuse the system, I feel for people, like this young couple who are trying to do the right thing. They live with family, pay rent, work and insure their car. I will go out on a limb and guess this young lady has limited education and the system did not adequately address her needs. Some assistance and counseling about proper prenatal nutrition will at the very least help give their child a chance at proper development.
So Merry Christmas to you and yours and I am serious about my offer. PM me if you like.
The alternative is that the her child pays for her poor decisions. As unfair as it that you have to pay for her, I think it would be even less fair for the kid to grow up undernourished.

Please ignore the nit wit responses in this thread. Can you qualify for food stamps as a dependent? Probably not, but why don't you go in, talk to them and find out for sure. You can also fill out an application online, but it can take months to get approved.
My friend was unemployed after college and only qualified for $60 a month in food stamps. So it doesn't worth it.
