I'm looking at a house in Charlton, MA that hasn't been built. Blair Builders has a subdivision going in off of Rt. 31. The train track is 2000 feet from the lot I'm looking at.

How do I find out what time the trains go by and their schedule? I know CSX has freight trains that go along the track & also Amtrack has passenger trains that pass by. I've googled this & haven't had any success.

Kelly, if there's an Amtrak train that uses that route I guess it must be the Lake Shore Limited.

Amtrak - Timetables

Thanks!

Ok. Seems like the Amtrack train passes through between 12:58pm & 2:10pm & 5:53pm & 6:57pm. Not horrible times of day, but that schedule looked like it was a daily train.

Still looking for info on the CSX train. I will have to find a phone # for them & call and see what I can find out.

The price is really good on the house for us... The other new construction in this range backs up to the Mass Pike....

Mass Pike or a train track? May have to keep looking.

I'd keep looking. Otherwise when you go to sell you're going to have people turn away from your house for the same reason. Sorry to say, it makes a big impact. Best of luck though!

We have CSX train tracks behind our house. It does not go by at the same time every day. On a regular day, once in the mid morning and once in the evening. Sometimes there are late night trains-like 2 am. I'm not sure if you will be near a signal light, but sometimes the light gets stuck and it will "ding-ding" for hours.

Does the 2am train wake you? Do you mind the train?

I'm thinking I might actually enjoy the train, but I dunno... I know it's a definite deterent right now. Not so much because of the train but because of resale. We are not planning to move again for a long long time, but you never know what the future holds and so far we have moved a lot.

I hear the CSX train as it travels through a neighboring town most mornings at about 5:30 (that's when the dog gets me up, so I'm outside, lol). It is a nice sound.

Yes,sometimes I am woken up by it. I really don't mind it at all. And of course the kids love it.. Some people like the novelty of having a train go by. But, I know the Amtrak train is extremely fast and loud. I would not buy a house that had an Amtrak train running by it.

2000 feet? That's roughly 2/5ths of a mile.

My parents live about 2/5ths of a mile from a railroad line (P&W), and trains going through were never seriously disruptive. If you was awake, you could faintly hear it off in the distance. If you was asleep, probably wouldn't be an issue.
