I wonder what my fellow Massachusetts people think about the new train service that our Gov. Deval is trying to tout as a fantastic idea that will save the commonwealth. Will anyone actually ride it or is he just trying to leave a legacy. I would rather see a legacy of a balanced budget and the stop to unneeded wasteful spending but the higher ups seem to really want this expensive train.
What do you think?

I suspect quite a few people will ride it. But keep in mind, the proposed service isn't full scale daily commuter trains, it's just a few weekend trains, piggybacking on to an existing scheduled train that already runs about half of the distance. The cost of this is low, and if it doesn't work, it's easy to suspend. I think this is a great way to test service expansion without the sort of major financial commitment required by South Coast Rail.

Howie Carr has a nice encouraging piece about this on the Boston Herald.

Do you have a link Tam88? All I can find is a piece where he whines about South Coast Rail, which is something completely different. I'd be interested in reading the column you mention, though.

It's the Cape Cod Flyer!

source: Cape Cod Flyer Facebook Page

Essentially, it's an extension of the Middleboro line for a select number of trains on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The tracks are already there, connecting the line to Buzzards Bay, and then through to Hyannis. The trains providing this service will be MBTA trains with an added bicycle car, which will make an express run to Middleboro, with continuing service to the Cape. Tickets will be $20 one way, $35 round trip, and will run roughly from the weekend before Memorial day to the weekend after Labor day.
