I thought about adding the Lexus IS-F; however, I wanted to limit the list to coupes. As for the BMW M3, I prefer the older E36s and E46s over the "Chris Bangle-influenced" E90s.

I agree. Fortunately, there's also a Camaro SS convertible.

OK, forget the Porsche. You need a pickup so you can take your goats for a ride. Pitbulls too.

STX = St Croix?

Funny story. I had a pet when I was little (in Trinidad). My dad was selling cocoa in town I think, and my mom and I were waiting outside. A truck transporting goats was stopped, and the driver gave me a baby goat. So I had a pet goat, but we had to get rid of it when it grew horns and started head butting me.

It really does vary by island. A parking lot on Oahu, as well as the more dense city streets and larger highways, is far more likely to have status vehicles, speed cars, and more tricked-out rides.

Maui is more laid back & casual than Oahu, but maybe less so than the Big Island, and surely less so than Kauai.

If the question is really whether there will be a problem with the driver of a status car, then NO. But if the driver has a need for speed, I'm just saying that isn't a good idea on Maui. And not just because I don't want speeders scaring me and the other drivers - there just isn't a place to go fast. Our highways are shorter than Oahus, and top posted speed is 55. One of our widest highways climbs upcountry, and I'm not sure this car under discussion is built to handle the climb at speed (if speed is the goal). Then the other wide highway is Pi'ilani above Kihei, and that's undivided and full of cars. If a speeding car doesn't have a problem themselves, they might scare others into crossing the highway and causing an accident.

But back to the original question, maybe a little stinkeye from those envious, but also maybe not so many admiring glances. Rolling eyes, I'd guess, the same as given to those who drive Hummers. Most who drive Hummers don't really use the capability, they are just driving their perception of status.

If your wife loves her car, and loves how she looks in it (I detect that's important to you both), then go for it!

Hey, a lot of posts since I started my reply below.

I LOVE that you admire your wife's looks, that's fantastic. Understand that we don't know either of you, so we can only respond to the information you provide. You mentioned her love of speed. That's what I answered from. I think others answered from the "cute and fit" part because that's what you chose to write. But you sound intelligent and interesting, welcome to Maui!

Now that's a tourist car, right with the Mustang convertibles!
