Oh, for sure. I'm told that sometimes, when the Kona breezes are gently blowing just right, you can hear the chanting for miles... O'o No'o... O'o No'o... O'o No'o

Thanks for all the advice. I will have a good amount of cash reserve. I plan on staying in HI for a couple years and traveling west from there. I have done plenty research and understand this won't be easy. If it was easy everybody would be doing it. I am just not sure what island to choose from. Right now I am thinking between Oahu ( high job opportunity), the big island for lower rent or even Maui because I know people who would be able to get me a job.

Where is the best surf?

1) Oahu: high job opportunity + high cost of living + low wages = 2+ minimum wage, part-time jobs and no time to surf.

2) Big Island: no jobs + lower cost of living + low wages + stronger preference towards hiring kama'aina = lots of time to surf, but no good surf spots.

3) Maui: low job opportunity + low wages + high cost of living = time to surf but no money to live.

Nj cost a lot to live just like the islands of HI, so I am used to that. The question I have is what island and where on the island would be best. I am not looking for a very high paying job. Just enough to pay my rent, utilities, and food. I really want to embrace the aloha spirit and find myself.

I am looking for a safe friendly area where I can meet and build relationships with quality people. I get that everywhere has it's good and bad parts and that is why I'm asking theses questions here. Thank you
First off Aloha and welcome, my co-ops sometimes have a problem with this. Have a dream but plan good and plan some more. Geographics rarely work based on being miserable. U are who u are no matter loca

I'd say Maui for you and get yourself a van to live out of. The kitesurfing is endless and soon you could become a movie star.

Worst case you get back on a plane and god forbid head back to Jersy.

It sounds like you might be more than miserable about the fact that you're in NJ. Moving for that reason is nearly always a mistake, especially to a place like Maui. If you're not happy before you get here, don't expect the island to take care of that for you.
