Just got back from the store - I posted some pics for price comparisons here

I didn't want to clutter this thread with 14 images. Glad I could help, and good luck with the move

Mana foods is very expensive place!
Haiku has a lot of farmers markets. Produce on farmers markets way better then in grocery stores and prices way lower. Good prices for fish in Philippino market in Kahului, but you have to buy whole fish and clean it yourself.

What about a job for a dentist? I'm a 34 year old single male with no children looking to possibly relocate to Hawaii within the next 4-5 years. I recently spent a week on Oahu, loved it and I'm thinking about moving there in a few years. I'm sure there are plenty of dentists on Oahu, from what others have told me though Maui seems to be booming and most have told me to go there instead. Any suggestions for a dentist willing to move to Oahu?

Sadly, this is due to the islands' sagging economy and not to any overly-hospitable tendencies. If you're coming looking for work -- which "Think!" is not -- be prepared. Even low-paying part-time jobs are hard to find right now. Things are looking up for Christmas and New Year's, but people are very chary about Feb-May, which are normally medium/high-occupancy months for tourists. After the second weekend in January, things are dead, dead, dead. Maybe July will bring the California families over? We'll see.
Indeed, everyone reading here in preparation for a move, please make sure you take into consideration your timeline vs. the the possible changes that an increase in tourism and the economy could bring. I've only been here for 2 months... take heed of folks like whynot? who've been here long enough to catch the trends.

Oh, another thing I forgot to mention in my first post. BUY A GPS. I brought a Garmin StreetPilot with me and it has saved my okole so many times it's not funny. The Garmin has a few areas that aren't quite perfectly accurate, but it's well worth having and using while you learn the area.

If you haven't already done it, drive out Hana Highway to the Bamboo forest and hike up to the high waterfall and jump off it into the 40 degree pool. This is one experience I'll never forget. Maui has it all. I love the beach but the quiet up country is amazing!

To be honest, I don't know.. I don't look at the thermometer much. I think it's gotten down into the high 60's at night a few times.

60 is freezing cold and we wear jackets! Brrr! Mainland people come over here and wear tank tops and shorts and everyone else is freezing to death. They must have thicker blood over there or something.
