This is very positive for those who have followed U of M sports for many years. The Big East is a BCS conference and features many of the Tigers' old rivals and some new respectable conference mates Before the lurking naysayers start in with how the conference isn't what it used to be or that U of M will dwell in the football cellar, let me point out that we have a promising new f.b. coach with provable offensive credits to face the challenge, and that the more respectable conference will allow a better level of recruiting to go with it. The tougher conference schedule is something that neither coach will shy away from. The Big East is fortunate to have the Tigers' b.ball program at this juncture.

Tenants hope for Liberty Bowl stadium upgrade with Memphis Tigers' move to Big East
The Commercial Appeal

Quote:
With Wednesday's announcement that the University of Memphis is upgrading its conference affiliation status -- moving from Conference USA to the Big East in 2013 -- will an upgrade at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium, follow? The nearly 50-year-old, city-owned facility has been home to Tiger football and the AutoZone Liberty Bowl since the mid-1960s, and the Southern Heritage Classic for more than two decades. Although various renovations through the years have improved the game-day experience for fans and media, more upgrades are needed according to the three major tenants, all of whom are hoping the Big East's invitation to the U of M will be a catalyst for an accelerated facelift.
