Yeah, I know it's a bit morbid, but I'm going to be in Memphis in about 2 weeks staying at the Doubletree and would really like to pay my respects at the site where Jeff Buckley drowned back in 1997.

I know it's down near Wolf River Harbor and Mud Island, but if anyone has any specific information regarding the exact spot, I'd greatly appreciate it. I don't imagine there's a plaque or a memorial or anything?

Also, does anyone have any recommendations for places to eat or clubs that any visitor absolutely must go to when in Memphis? Thanks,

V.

Ugh.

OK, if you drive to the northern tip of Mud Island, it was near the place where the Wolf River meets the Mississippi.

Others have died/been left there, though, so please be respectful.

Thanks. I was planning on stripping off all my clothes, dousing myself in Jack Daniels, and jumping into the water while belting out an acapella version of "Whole Lot Of Love" in his honor.

Is that respectful enough?

Please re-read my original post and note the intended tone.

P.S. Mud Island doesn't have a northern tip. It's actually a peninsula. I think you mean southern tip. Besides, the research I've found says he went swiming in a "marina" prior to drowning in the wake of a passing tugboat. The only marina I see appears to be located near the center of Mud Island. His body was apparently found, "...floating on the riverside near Harbor Island, at the foot of the city's famed Beale Street." I'm looking for the spot where he went in the water.

Wow, thanks for the geography lesson, Magellan.

Do you want to know where to go or not?

Go to the northern tipppppp of the Mud Island peninsula where the Wolf lets into the Mississippi, not the side of the peninsula where the Wolf Lagoon is. You can see what tip of the peninsula I was talking about if you look on a map. Call it a corner if it makes you feel better.

It's right there. It used to be much more deserted and less traveled than it is now. That's where he was hanging out.

What I recall from your OP is your sheepishness at asking for this info because you know it might offend some. I understand you are a fan. You don't know who I am or why I might actually have sensitivities about this issue. I trust you'll be cool about it; I can dig a smart-*ss.

As for clubs and restaurants, head to Beale Street. it's downtown close to the Mississippi. there's loads of music and entertainment. Depending on what type food you're in the mood for, consider the Memphis staple food BBQ. check out Central BBQ on Central Avenue. Great ribs. If you are staying in the downtown area, then The Rendezvous is the place to be.

Wmsn4Life,

Yeah, I want to know where to go, but I know that you're not the only person on this board who probably knows where the site was, despite your "Senior Member" status. I'm sure there's somebody else out there who could have provided me with the info without the disdainful attitude.

Regardless, thanks for the clarification. If that's the site, it's not where I was expecting it to be.

P.S. I've never been accused of "sheepishness", though I have frequently been accused of being a "smarta**".

And you're right. I don't know who you are or anything about your sensitivities. Conversely, you don't know anything about who I am and whether I might be predisposed to treat the visit in a manner you might consider disrespectful.

I'll try not to disappoint.

It's at the northern part of the parking lot where the fishing boat ramp is, no? Hopefully one day there'll be some sort of memorial or marker.

Re things to do, I don't know which is less annoying, reposting a lengthy post or linking to another thread. To save space here, I'll elect the latter: //www.city-data.com/forum/memph...l#post16221155. It may be a little outdated...
