Hello,
This is only my second time writing on a forum, the first time was about 10 minutes ago when I posted a similar post in Olive Branch looking for the same type of job industry. My family and I are possibly moving to the OB area in June. I already have a job, but my husband is a heavy equipment operator and we are wondering if there are many jobs out there for that type of work and ofcourse what the pay is (just a range maybe) How would we be able to talk to someone without visiting (if that is possible)
Does anyone have any ideas or connections. We will probably visit for a week in April, but we would like to have some interviews or meetings arranged for him before we get there.
I really appreciate any help

I have no clue about specifics, but Memphis has a large industrial area down by the airport, south of town on the MS border. I would imagine factory type jobs are plentiful in that area. Not a good area to live in, pretty bad, but lots of factories.

Not really industrial/production...more like distribution. Lots of WAREHOUSES, not factories. Jobs are plentiful, but not high paying jobs.

There is alot of construction going on, however, in the outlying suburbs of Memphis and I am sure there will be heavy equipment operators in need there.

thank you both very much. This is so hard because my husband makes very good money in California operating heavy equipment (dozers, loaders, scrapers) and it doesn't look like he will make anywhere close to what he is making here in TN or MS. I really would like to relocate though. ho hum

Yes but you won't be paying for an $800,000 3 bedroom house in TN or MS as you do in CA, along with the related taxes of Taxafornia.
Keep on looking, if he is a skilled heavy equipment operator he will find a job. The lower cost of living more than offsets the lower salary.

My honest to God guess is that when you guys sell your house and move to Memphis you are going to be pleasantly surprised at how much money you are going to have left over. I promise you won't be disappointed! As far as jobs are concerned; FedEx purchased a GIANT tract of land from the local Air National Guard and both FedEx and the ANG will be building enormous hangars here. The suburbs have a TON of construction going on and there is also a CAT and John Deere plant not far from Olive Branch. Don't forget that there are Casino's being built in Tunica at a pretty steady rate as well. I'm not sure what type of heavy equipment/pay he is used to but like I said; when you sell your home you are going to be PLEASANTLY surprised with what you get for your money down here.
