I will be moving to the memphis area this year. Looking at houses in Germantown, Collierville, Arlington and Lakeland. I have 1 high school aged child still at home. Anyone with input?

Who knows about property values these days...they are bad everywhere (the real estate market, that is). But anywhere in Germantown or Collierville will retain it's price, I'm sure. Lakeland, Arlington..I'm not as sure. Germantown has been around for so long and has always been a wealthy suburb. Lakeland and Arlington are "newer" and you never know what will happen 20 years down the line, you know?

As for high schools, Germantown high schools are great, as is Collerville high schools. You have to live in that city limits though; you can't live in Lakeland and send your kids to Germantown HS.

You will get a newer and larger house for your money in Arlington and Lakeland and be closer to more large national retail chains. Germantown and Collierville are pricier but have very strict rules on development. The schools in Germantown and Collierville are a little better than Arlington and Lakeland (though those schools aren't bad), especially if your child is in honors or AP classes.

I would choose either Arlington High or Collierville High. Arlington is growing so fast and you can still get tons of house for your money compared to Collierville/Germantown (areas closer to Memphis). Also Arlington's High School is very, very large and pretty new.
Collierville High is also good.
