I'm looking for the safest route to Graceland, coming from Collierville. I see that I can take the 240 then go south on Elvis Presley Blvd, but maybe it's better to take Shelby all the way and then go north on Elvis Presley Blvd? I'm not concerned with the drive taking longer, just looking for the safest route. I'm new to the area so any help is appreciated.

You’ll be fine either way. 240 should be faster though.

I've done 240 to 55 just fine. I would actually say taking the Interstate the majority of the way is "safer."

Driving on the interstate between point a and b is more dangerous than just being in Whitehaven. Take the scenic route of Winchester. When you get to the tunnel at the airport blow the horn and punch the gas (always fun!)

If you plan on taking the long way from Collierville to Graceland I would prefer taking Shelby Drive over Winchester Road because there seems to be more crime along Winchester (especially in Hickory Hill, Parkway Village & Oakhaven) than Shelby Drive, I personally find Whitehaven to be one of the more underrated areas of Memphis that gets an undeserved bad reputation.

I never take I-40 to Memphis and I hate the small part of 240 I have to take to the VA hospital. ICK, southerners do not have the driving skills to be on a major highway! And I've been here for 6 years now, plan on many more. If I could find an alternate route to the VA to avoid the highway after I get off 72, I would happily take that.
