For my $$ the polar bear exhibit is worth the price of admission alone. Went there on a hot summer day, sat in the delicious air conditioning and watched some large carnivores swim after ice blocks and frozen fish.

May sound lame here but spent a couple of hours watching these fascinating creatures and was not bored at all.

What is your favorite exhibit and why?

We went in the spring when it was on the chilly side. The polar bears seemed to enjoy scaring the people watching. We also saw one of the pandas during feeding time.

The pandas are a great addition to the zoo. Overall I think the zoo is wonderful for a city of this size. Definitely a highlight of the town.

I used to work there. My favorite animals were the elephants.

The Animals of the Night exhibit is great! I'm a big fan of the bats.

The Memphis Zoo is great.

Just a note for newbies, you can get in free on Tuesday afternoons. I can't remember what time it starts though.

Don't you need state id/license for that benefit?

FYI --

EDITED -- The pandas ain't going anywhere anytime soon!

We had a zoo membership the entire time we lived in Memphis. It was well-worth the money. The after-hours family events for zoo members are lots of fun for the little ones.

How long was the lease for the pandas? 5 years?

The pandas will be leaving the zoo soon. (I think that happens at the end of the year.) If you've never been to the zoo or haven't been in a long time, it's well worth a visit just to see them -- especially if you catch them while they're awake (which is rare).
