Is it really that loud and busy??? I'm looking at buying a house just south of Poplar on Bailey Station. Is it true that they blare their whistles at every crossroad day and night?

I just sent you a PM, yes, they blare their whistles, sometimes there are 5 or 6 trains during the night. There are probably only 2-3 during the day. I think you get used to it though, it used to wake me up, (I'm 2 miles away), but now I sleep right through it, and it's strangely calming to me.

If it is any consolation, That is the Norfolk Southern line. That is the rail company that announced it is building the intermodal yard in Fayette County. Once it is built, I would expect the trains to be mostly daytime trains.

Hawkster, that place was a blast, I wish it had not closed, it's actually very cool inside, the wood was beautiful and imported, they even had a grand piano near the bar!!

Yup...I think my wife even took my daughter and some of her freinds up there one Halloween...last year maybe. It was always a cool place to take my out of town relatives. "Thats a restauraunt?"

I happened to get lucky yesterday...as I drove out there, a train was approaching the Bailey Station intersection and it did whistle---but it was for a few seconds and the train wasn't very loud. I was surprised because I was right there and I expected it to be terrible! No worries!

Too bad about the closing of that restaurant! Sounds like a really neat place....maybe someone will reopen when the economy picks up a little. Any other neat places like that worth checking out in the area? I just moved here from SC.

ginger, a lot of the places on the square are cool, try Square Beans coffee for good food and coffee, they have story time for kids, bands on the weekends sometimes, and other events. I like Cafe Piazza, right off the square too (right by the train) for casual pizza/dining.
