I am Bengali-Indian and I have lived in Memphis my whole life of 23 years (until 6 months ago when I moved to Tucson, AZ.) My mother was also born here. My grandfather came to Memphis in 1950's (he has been working at St. Francis Hospital since the late 60's). He lived on Mynders Road close to U of M when he first moved here. As of last year, they have moved to the River Oaks neighborhood by Shady Grove and Ripplebrook. I have lived in several neighborhoods in Memphis. I grew up in the High Point Terrace neighborhood close to Highland & Autumn (great place to live. I also lived at Winchester and Castleman when I was a toddler. The former is no longer a safe place to live. During my senior year of high school, I lived next to Overton Park. I absolutely loved living there. I highly suggest you get an apartment in Midtown.

Crime in Memphis is unavoidable. No matter what neighborhood in you are in Memphis (more specifically within the loop,) you should take the proper precautions. Almost everyone in my family has been a victim of property theft. We are well off, most of my family is in the medical/dental business. We also take advantage of our 2nd amendment rights. So no matter who you are, you should take precaution.

I highly reccomend the apartment complex that I live in...The Preserve at Forest Creek...Preserve at Forest Creek Apartments
It is at the corner of Germantown and Collierville, 2 very nice suburbs. It is literally 15 seconds to TN-385, which can get you to UT Memphis in about 25 minutes. I love it there. Great ammenities and a price that definitely fits your budget.
