I have suffered with really bad breath for over 35 years now, since as long as I can remember. When I was a child, even before I realised I had bad breath, I didn't like the constant horrible taste in my mouth. In my adult years this has led to depression and thoughts of suicide. I have spent hundreds of pounds on all the latest mouth washes and products. I have tried all the diets - even fasting for 21 days, with no joy. I even had my tonsils out, which made no difference. What was frustrating was that every now and then I would have a better than average mouth day, which was amazing, but not knowing why was really frustrating. This would lead me in ever decreasing frantic circles of trying to work out why it was - leading to crazy diets and regimes, including the candida diet. At some points I had even got as desperate as to gargle with bleach and attempted to burn the skin on my tongue with a red-hot spoon. It seems like no matter how much I cleaned my teeth or what I ate, my mouth hardly ever felt clean and always tasted sour, or metallic or acidic.

The reason I am writing this is that for the last couple of weeks my mouth has felt clean and fresh.
The reason for this is that I have been gargling with Xylatol three times a day. Xylatol is a sugar alternative which you can by for less than £3 from the supermarket.
I looked up the science of it on the internet, and it seems that there are bacteria in our mouths that feed on sugar, protein and carbohydrates. Some of the bacteria are harmless, but others produce smelly gases and acidic wastes which cause bad breath and tooth erosion. Some people have more of these 'bad' bacteria than others. And sometimes these bad bacteria can grow out of control when circumstances change in our bodies.
Thankfully, apparently these bad bacteria feed on the xylatol, which looks and tastes just like sugar, but this sugar is not harmful to our teeth, and does something to the 'bad' bacteria which causes them to feed on it, implode and die off.
The very first time I put a teaspoon full of xylatol in my mouth and swished it around for about 5 minutes, and then brushed my teeth - I was shocked, thinking it was going to be yet another failure - it wasn't! It really worked, and has been working for the last couple of weeks. According to one website I looked at, it can take up to 5 weeks of daily use before the surface of the tongue becomes pretty much free from the horrible bacteria. Yet even instantly my mouth has been so much better, no matter what I eat.

So it turns out for me, that my bad breath problem wasn't caused by diet, my stomach, my small hiatus hernia, acid reflux, allergies, stress or anything else that I have been desperately pointing the finger at all these years, but an overgrowth of the wrong bacteria in my mouth - which so far has been corrected by swishing around a sugar-substitute in my mouth. Hallelujah!!!

I know there are many causes for bad breath, but I expect that this is quite a common cause, and I hope that many of you may find that this is your cure too.
If not, hang in there because your cure may be just about to appear too!
Take note people, Xylitol works! I have cleared my ENTIRE MOUTH of all infections, germs, bacteria, etc. by consistent and diligent use of Xylitol. I buy granules (looks and tastes just like sugar, but it isn't!) and I take some 1/2 tsp) and dissolve in my mouth after every meal or tooth brushing. It keeps your mouth, tongue and teeth impeccably clean and free of placque and bacteria. Sweet breath!

This might interest some others. I have been buying a lozenge for middle of night wake up and dry mouth and it works good. But I'm going to buy this one as iherb sells it and I buy from them most of the time. This one lists issues for bad breath too. But there could be a lot more to the bad breath issue and there is a lot of info on this subject for those who are affected.

https://www.amazon.com/TheraBreath-D...Blozenges&th=1

This one and the one I've been using contain Xylitol.

When I tell you I’ve never ever related to something so much in my life before this. Like ever single detail you’ve wrote and struggled with are the same exact things I’ve struggled with. I don’t want to say I’m happy I can relate to someone in this matter but I kind of am it’s ok to people face the same problems as you. I’m glad you shared this because the accuracy of my life compared to your life is like 100 percent.

Hi Forum People,

I have the same problem as mentioned in the orignal post, How much ever I brush, Gargle, The Bad breath persists, Everybody around knows this. I have facing issues in my carrier and professional life. I have seen people covering their nose while taking to me

I prefer less talking to people and keep that ****ty mouth closed

I have been to many dentists, Stomach Doctor, Ayurved, Homepathy etc...

I came across a ENT, Who told me th ebad breath is due to Sleep Apena and I snore in the night with my mouth wide open.
The bacterias go inside the mouth and stick in the inner layer of the throat and they keep producing Sulphur, Which creates the bad adour, This problem is normally for FAT people.

A normal person cannot relate to this ? and they think this guy does not Brush his teeth (At the Background)

Temporarily I am using Homepathic medicine pil
1. Khali Phos 6X --4 times a day
2. Merc Sol 30 -- 2 drops, two times daily
3. psorinum 200 - Once a week

But these medicines are just for Oudor control, But it will not fix the root cause

One more symtom I have is a sour throat all the time

I will be conducting a sleep test in this week, To test Sleep Apena
Have reduced weight from 110 to 104KG

"I can give anything to solve this bad breadth issue"

Any suggestions or help, Please let me know mithun.chakrovarthy@gmail.com

Im sorry but I think it is... and can chase people away. personally I cant stand being near smells of this type.. and sad as it is neither can others.. this might be a gut problem you have and Id look at leaky gut and the foods and supplements you should take for the condition.. Liquorice root. Kefir yogurt. L Glutamine...N-acetyl glucosamine

Some of the best probiotic-rich foods you can add in are things like 24 to 29-hour fermented homemade probiotic yogurt, buying goat milk kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha and coconut kefir. Really load up on the probiotic-rich foods.

April my younger son, who is now 31, has had hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) since he was about 6 or 7. If he was playing a video game, the sweat from his hands would run down his arms. He hated to shake hands with anyone or hold anybody's hand. As he got older and got into puberty the sweating was all over, not just his hands. He would always wear black to hide the sweat marks and changed shirts numerous times a day. He socks would be drenched. He tried prescription antiperspirants, some electronic thing that was supposed to zap the nerves in the hands that triggered sweat and even considered Botox and surgery.

Finally he found a doctor who actually did some research and prescribed him OA medicine and he has been fine since then. Don't give up. Go to an ENT doctor if you haven't been, try a hospital affiliated with a medical school or even a dental school. I'm sure you have looked up your condition online haven't you?

I've spent a lot of money visiting dentists, internists, gastroenterologist, naturopathic doctors, acupuncturists, etc, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to cure myself of the chronic halitosis that I suffer from on a regular basis. A few years back, I even tried the numerous online so called breath solution products, I won't even bother naming them. Let's just say one particular dentist made a killing selling his useless products to people who suffer from chronic bad breath like me. After wasting hundreds of dollars on those useless products, I just decided to stick with regular toothpaste, dental floss, and alcohol free mouth wash. Even though I use these products religiously and I brush after EVERY meal, I still suffer from bad breath.

I've changed my diet as well. I mostly only eat fresh fruits and vegetables, and I drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. But yep, I'm still suffering from BB.

It's affected my career and personal life in ways that most people can't even imagine. My life wasn't always like this. When I was in my late teens, I had throat surgery, and shortly after, I developed chronic halitosis. It really didn't matter how often I brushed my teeth, or how often I flossed and used a tongue scraper, the end result remained the same.

Recently, I decided to go gluten free and this has helped somewhat. My breath doesn't seem to smell as bad as it has in the past, but the overall damage has already been done to my self esteem. My confidence has been destroyed. I don't even feel comfortable speaking without covering my mouth. Also, when I sit next to people on the train, I cover my mouth out of fear that I will offend them.

I really hate it when I have to travel via airplane, because the person sitting next to me will inevitably try to start up a conversation. I'm a very friendly person and I've dreamed about being able to smile and just be normal, but I can't. Instead of embarrassing myself, I just pretend to be hearing impaired, and I begin using sign language (which I don't really know at all). I feel so ashamed because I never thought that my life would be like this.

Imagine never being able to speak to people without covering your mouth. I have thought about suicide a lot, but I don't feel comfortable following through because my family has begged me to just accept who I am. I try to, but it's becoming hard. When I see people talking to each other on the train, or at other venues I feel so jealous of them. I'd give anything to have my voice back.

I want to be normal and have normal relationships. I haven't even kissed a guy. I know things would be so different if I had fresh breath. I guess I am just trying to cope with the reality of the situation, because I may never really find out what is causing this problem. I desperately want to date and have friends. I want to socialize. I want to feel good about myself. It just seems so impossible. I feel so unlovable due to the chronic halitosis. I know most people would never want to be around someone like me.

The funny part is, they just assume that I have poor oral hygiene. They have no idea how hard I try to correct the problem. Not a day goes by that it's not a major concern for me.

When I'm at work, something as simple as a meeting can throw off my entire day, especially if the meeting is in the afternoon. I constantly worry about the seating in the room and not being too close to others, so I arrive well in advance, to ensure that there's adequate spacing in the room. Most times I will leave my sweater on a chair so that the person will just avoid sitting in the seat directly next to me. Anyhow, it's becoming very tiring. I can't do this any longer. I'm breaking down. I have no friends, no life and no romantic prospects.

I chatted with one guy from an internet site and I told him about my condition, but he wasn't in the U.S., he lived in Europe. Anyhow, he told me that everyone has imperfections, and that I should just learn to love myself, but I find it hard to be believe that anyone would want to be in a relationship with a woman who has chronic halitosis.

Couples rely on intimacy, kissing, etc so why on earth would a person want to be with someone who suffers from bad breath? I guess I am just putting the question out there. But somehow I already know what most people will say.

Anyhow, I just felt like getting this off my chest because I am feeling really depressed about this issue. For those who don't suffer from this (which is most people) just be happy that you are able to laugh, smile, and talk to people without worrying about your breath, after you've brushed your teeth.

I would give anything to be in your situation.
Is it self pity.

I guess most people who don't suffer from halitosis just don't understand. No amount of gum is going to make my breath smell better, if the source of my bb is internal.
Do you have post nasal drip? Have you been to an ENT specialist or allergist? That would account for your scratchy throat too as well as bad breath.
