I know how you feel about these kind of people getting the some or all of the family money after they have acted so badly for so long. My sister talked my Mom into basically giving her all the family money when she would die. This was right after my Moms stroke and right before the stroke my Mom had set it up so each of the siblings would get 1/2.

I have a friend that's brother talked his Mom into selling the family land and give this brother all the money from the land and cut out the two other brothers and one sister. My friend was devastated. He had planned on retireing to his part of the land and the whole family knew it.

i have AvPD. people think you don't associate with them b/c you don't like them. but really it has nothing to do with that. best not to start any relationships at all if you have this, just going to end in disaster.

Could that even hold up in a court of law? I thought that a person had to be mentally competent before they could change the trust. Fortunately for us my brother was the favorite and he has integrity so I don't have much to worry about. He would rather have every fingernail pulled out slowly and excruciatingly before he would give one penny to my sis, but he will honor the will. If he gets a little creative about how things are distributed, well, I stand behind him, lol.

One thought that came to me about PD's though is this: I mentioned two people in my life who both seem to fit the criteria for PD very well, but they are both so different. My co-worker is a mean person--she will stir up crap just b/c she can and I think finds it entertaining. She's also very vindictive. My sis on the other hand is not mean or vindictive--just selfish and self centered. I had to hotline her once for child neglect and kept waiting for her to hotline me back but she never did--she said later that she always thought that I was a great mom and would never do that. It's the nicest thing she ever said. The ex-coworker would do such a thing though.

First of all, do you know that for sure? The reason I ask is because there are other disorders that may cause social problems as well--two that come to mind are autism disorders and ADD.

Secondly, do you mind sharing how that is for you? I would think it would be the hardest of the PD disorders to have and it would seem that there is much fear and self-loathing involved. I am always interested in understanding a person's experience of the world so I'm not asking to be mean--I don't hate people with PD, but I hate how some of them have made me feel and it would help me to understand. And the more I understand of what people go through, the more accepting and less judgmental I have become.

It is interesting, the people skills you develop living with a person who has a personality disorder. I learned to never take anything seriously, be quiet, listen more than talk, and above all, remember, everything is always about them.

dealing with a person with a personality disorder or any disorder requires a little compassion and patience but common sense tells us we don't have to act like they are the whole world in order to understand/communicate with them.
