Another post here in the psychology forum inspired me to inquire here about the connection between alcohol and panic attacks. For years I have suffered on and off with panic attacks. They are not always triggered by a bad day, bad moment, fear or anxiety....It seems my body has taken them on strictly as a physical problem not related to emotions anymore. I notice these physical episodes are irritated and enhanced by drinking alcohol the day before and coffee. The "attacks" feel mostly like I am going to fall back, lose consciousness and faint in the floor accompanied by of course extreme fear of that happening, sensitivity to light (eyes want to close), breathing problems, weird sensations auras, racing mind . I have been check for thyroid, sugar and heart problems which came back normal. It definitely is not food related, not eating or eating does not change these episodes.
My questions for perhaps more knowledgeable people are the following:
1) Do you think after years of worry or anxiety your body can develop a physical disorder of what seems like panic?
2) Do you think some people are more prone to panic attacks, because their physical body alone is over producing adrenaline? like adrenal disorder?
3) Why do you think the DAY AFTER drinking alcohol the symptoms are so much enhanced? Do you think sugar levels irritate this?
4) Do sugar levels cause these panic /fainting symptoms ?
5) can a heart problem go undetected even after a EKG, because it is an occasional problem?
While there is a fear associated with these symptoms (no one wants to freak out or faint in public) ...It seems it is more physical and begins as a physical and not emotional/mental or psychological problem. I feel like my body over produces adrenaline, yet no general physicians are knowledgeable about this possibility.
Is there an herb or medication that limits adrenaline production or release? Adrenaline release is natural, but is there anything for persons whose body floods them with too much of it?
