Thank you all! I just found a place in Columbia SC. I am researching their details right now. I know nothing about SC. I also don’t want to be in a high crime area. Let you know what I find out.
Because I’m low income I receive a housing voucher. I’m a senior and for 8 years I’ve had the voucher I’ve been unable to find safe, habitable, housing. Most are drug and bug infested. I have no family and need a senior community. There is nothing in any of the states. I’m beginning to think my life should be over. My depression is the worst it’s ever been. I no longer take care of myself and I’ve given up. Having a decent place to live means everything to me. Anyone in a situation like mine?
Do you have a town senior center where you live? Where seniors meet, have activities, etc etc. In many there are SWs that can assist with problems or the town you live in.
I don't understand why you're having those problems if you have a housing voucher. I had an old girlfriend w/ one of those and it really helped her. She was able to find very good housing, she just had to be careful to ck them out thoroughly first. If yours is like hers, she could use it in any state in the US. In fact, she paid so little rent that her take home money each money was more than mine even though my social security retirement ck was a LOT more than her income. But I was paying full market rate for housing, while she only paid a small amount out of pocket for rent.
There are plenty of nice housing options out there, you don't have to live in the ghetto. One of the websites for finding rentals is lowincomehousing.us. There's others, just contact your Section 8 worker. She also found rentals by looking at ads in craigslist and and calling or emailing them to ask if they would consider renting the unit as Section 8. It's easy to do, and many people like doing it because they're assured of always getting the majority of their rent paid through Section 8. That's how she found a really nice rental condo. Section 8 takes a look at the places, and what they want is basic stuff any rental should have, so a landlord doesn't have to jump through a lot of hoops or shell out for big improvements.
