216 posts on this forum and you still don´t know where the illegal immigration sub-forum is?

Too many posts for a troll. (with a latino name)

Just a side note: Just because USA immigration laws and enforcement are too lax, it doesn´t mean that every country has to jump in the same boat. So if you are in Mexico ilegally, then (as per CD anti-immigrant crowd thinking) you are a criminal... don´t expect to be treated like royalty. If you too affraid to be "shaked down" or "bitten" then don´t come to Mexico. This is something EVERYONE even us MEXICANS suffer every now and then.

And for the poor soul who has been so "humilliated" for being asked for a birth certificate... don´t be so sensitive, We Mexicans, who happen to go thru all the loops to get a visitor visa, are requiered to have at hand all kind of stupid documents like bank account statements, school grades, property rent, ownership or mortgage proof, job or irs documents... even your utilities bills! every time (EVERY TIME) we ask for an internation permit to go beyond the checkpoints into the USA. Maybe they don´t ask for a bribe, but you are at the officer mood swings will. So if you have all the usual docs at hand, and the guy at the desk asks for your dog birth certificate and you fail to show it, then you are screwed, and don´t try to argue because you can loose your visa. As easy as that.

So cry me a river, but it happens both sides of the fence.

She has a Mexican Passport and all of her USA ID, including her green cared, driver's license and so forth.

PS: The country has become Afghanistan with all the drug cartels. She felt lucky to get out and was scared to death the whole time she was there.
She visited her grandmother and in two years the place went from nice to people disappearing and drug cartels playing big brother all over the place.
She was afraid over there and will NOT be returning.

My wife and her aunt did submit the copy of the birth certificates which were sent by fax and it worked out.
I think extorsion was in play, but who wants to visit Mexico and threaten people with calling police on them when you want to get home?
If we had no long form Birth Certificate (like Obama :-) ) they might have pursued other avenues before giving them $600.
The place is now more dangerous than ever.

My point is to be ready for a shakedown, a kidnapping or death these days.

I don't think it happens on both sides, if you come in legally you know what you need, there is no one needing to be bribed in the USA, it is the reverse IMO for Mexico.

Why? IMO because they are trying to get some more money out of some visitors.
Why would you need birth certificates after passports and everything else? Logically this does not compute except for as an excuse for extortion as I see it.

If you are a Mexican born American resident or current citizen, be warned and have a copy of your birth certificate if you go into Mexico.
Why didn't they bring their passports?
http://mexico.usembassy.gov/eng/eacs_sheet.html

They should have gotten the guy's name, said no thanks. .gone back to the US and reported the guy to the MX authorities.

Your thread title is WRONG.. you need a passport, not a birth certificate to go into MX. If were the MX customs guy I would have turned them back at the border since they did not bring proper documentation.

Entry Requirements for Mexico
Entry to Mexico: As of March 1, 2010, all U.S. citizens – including children -- must present a valid passport, book or card, for travel beyond the “border zone” into the interior of Mexico. Entry by any means, for example by plane or car, is included in this requirement. The “border zone” is generally defined as an area between 20 to 30 kilometers of the border with the U.S., depending on the location. Stays of less than 72 hours within the border zone do not require a visa or tourist card.

Your reading comprehension is WRONG. She had a passport, they demanded a birth certificate.
