Any news on when the new highway connecting Oaxaca City to the Oaxaca Coast is supposed to be finished? From what I remember, it was supposed to cut travel time from around 6 hours to 2.5 hours. Also, is it supposed to go to Puerto Escondido? Huatulco?
Google maps is now describing a 3:30 route Oaxaca to Puerto Escondido. It uses the same road, plus the coastal road, to get to Puerto Angel. Google Maps simply refuses to route using 175, the direct link from Oaxaca to Pochutla, even for intermediate links. I've found that GM often does that, even sending drivers through Guadalajara, instead of the Espina del Diablo from Durango to Mazatlan. I think they have made some arbitrary exclusions of certain roads, based on fears of litigious consequences if they post a "dangerous" routing.
