We are planning a summer vacation to Oaxaca. My family really wants to stay near the beach but I really would like to explore the city of Oaxaca. I was thinking of maybe booking my flight to Puerto Escondido and taking a bus into Oaxaca for a day excursion. I would appreciate any ideas on where to stay, best ruins to visit, etc.

I am Mexican, so I speak Spanish. Traveling with me will be my 16 yr old, 10 yr old, 5 yr old and my husband of course.

I can't wait to book my trip. Also, was thinking of using a travel agent for the first time. Do you all think they could actually save me money? I usually book my trips online.

Thanks and Happy New year!

If I remember correctly there's a bus leaving P.E. at night and arriving in the city in the morning. Be sure to check out Puerto Angel . I was there when Hurrican Paulina devastated the town but haven't seen it since it was rebuilt. It was much more interesting , in my opinion, than P.E.. Zipolite is one of the prettiest beach in Mx. but rather dangerous (currents and cross currents , undertows and such )

that route is no joke my friend, so bring some motion-sickness pills and sedatives if you're an antsy bus rider. pack yourself some salty snacks and don't have too many drinks before you get on the bus!

suerte!
