Judging from what I saw traveling through the states of Chiapas, Yucatan, and Tabasco, 5'8 or 5'9 seems to be "tall" for a grown young man and 5'4 - 5'5 for a grown young woman. At 5'8.5, I'm shorter than most of my peers up here in MN but taller than most Mexican men. I attribute it to genetics.

I'm a 5'5" male. I'm considered short in the USA. I've actually never been to Mexico. However, I've met many people from Mexico. Heights varied alot between the people I've met. I've met Mexican women who are taller than me, as well as men who are taller than me. I've also met plenty who were around my height, or shorter than me. It could depend on where they came from.

I'm from Sinaloa...and I stand around 5'10, and i would say I'm pretty close to average there, with many of my male cousins, uncles and one brother of mine being taller than me. The average female there is around 5'6 (my sister's and mom's height). This is just in Culiacan and Mazatlan though...can't speak for more rural parts of the state.

Mexico is more diverse than many people give it credit for. Things vary by state and region. The way things are in Veracruz or Chiapas will be different from what takes place in Sinaloa and Sonora. Nuevo Leon is different from the Baja states.

If you can see over the dashboard of your car without the use of a booster seat, you're tall.
