Why does Mexico's government leaders, and business leaders look white, I know most Mexicans are part white, but these influential people look pure white. They don't look like the Mexicans coming across the border. Is it just like the phenomenon in America where most whites are more "successful" than the native people? Is this true across South America? Is there a racial divide in South America similar to the one in the USA?

this is every where..
white people/features dominate the beauty category.
you guys are top picks for everything beauty wise.
you guys dominate Media.

a few years ago..
they even deported a bunch of Chinese from here to help "whiten" the population.

And it's true..
Mexicans are very race conscious.. but it's more from curiosity, not hatred.
of course.. im generalizing and there are exceptions.

ie. the guy i worked for did not like me cause he felt i wasn't Mexican enough and ridiculed me in front of everyone, even talking about me in Spanish (he knew i didn't understand Spanish).
- i thought.. Mexicans complain about this in the States.. how can you guys do this to me?

Clearly, anyone with half a brain knows there is exceptions to this but I am asking why usually most of the leaders in every field seem to be European? Are maybe I am wrong, are European whites over represented in success in South America? I was under the impression they were but from your post I am thinking my assumptions were wrong?

This is well studied and it happens in most Iberian-American societies (and in most of the world for that matter also)

In the case of most Iberian-American societies, historically white were the people coming from Spain/Portugal, and they had some position of power when they arrived to Americas, because it was conquered land at the time. Once those countries gained independence from Spain/Portugal, the children of those Spanish/Portuguese people were already rich and powerful and more educated, and the system has been perpetuating since.

Also, in most Iberian-American societies (and in most of the world really) the whiter you look, the less discrimination you are going to face due to your race.

In the USA it happens kind of the same if you think about it, although the difference is that the % of people of different races changes. But still races other than white in the USA are generally poorer and you can find less of those people in positions of power.

Interesting thought. Don't think I agree with it tho. I lived in Mexico City 3 times for a total of 3.5 years (last leave was a year ago). Before having lived there the first time, I thought all Mexicans looked the same. Then I lived in the capital and learned otherwise. When you take the metro, which some 4 million do every day, you see that there is no one specific look to the Mexicans. They come in all shades and even sizes (you'd be surprised how tall a few of them can get!). Some are very dark, some dark, some so-so, some white, etc. The current certainly "looks" Mexican. So does the mayor of MC. Who exactly would you be referring to? You can't count Carlos Slim, because although he is Mexican born, his parents originated from Lebanon - son of immigrants story.
