I have been checking the prices of meds in Mexico I use but cannot not find any costs on arrhythmia meds. I am not sure if that is because a prescription is required or not.

If I moved to Mexico would I still be able to get my meds through the VA?

Comments appreciated, thanks.

You really need to price them in person. Normally no scrip needed other than for antibiotics or pain meds or sleep aids or any barbiturates.

BUT be careful you are getting what you need here....not what they call, similares. They are often not up to snuff. My partner took rhythmol for Afib; at that time he took the time-release version in the US. That was not available in MX at that time, but he was able to get another formula of it.

We still have a house in the US and we fill scrips when we are there and bring them down here, but if we run out (he forgot his statins on last trip down) you can usually get them here, but not always.

The med I am concerned about is Dofetilide, the generic for Tikosyn. I could not find it listed.

I also wonder if ex pats who are vets still get their meds from the VA.

In order to keep getting your meds from the VA, you'll need to have a US address so that they can mail them to you. Check with some of the pharmacies where you're going to live in Mexico to see if they stock it.

Most CMRA's (Commercial Mail Receiving Agencies) won't handle packages of any sort; we have 3 here and only one will handle packages from outside MX. Packages into MX have to go thru Customs and are subject to inspection and heavy duties, especially on drugs. Had a friend who tried it once. Took almost 4 months and one of the medicines was confiscated.

My data is 8 years old and was into Costa Rica where I was advised they could transship meds in from my mail order pharmacy which my insurance requires I use for continuous meds. I stand corrected for Mexico and things may have changed for Costa Rica too
