Hey I'm really interested in visiting the quieter more rural regions of Chihuahua state and have set my sites on Ojinaga.Could anyone out there give a specific description of the place?Like say weather, local culture, safety, restaurants, etc.I have seen videos of the town on a video sharing site and have a few scant articles about the place. But I wanted a more "human" perspective from a person who's been through the town.Good or bad impressions of the town?Let me know.Thanks.

I've actually been to Ojinaga while on a visit to the west Texas area including Big Bend National Park. Ojinaga is just across the Rio Grande from Presidio, TX. Ojinaga and Presidio are both a long distance from any large city, so they both have that feel of "outpost" type of towns. I walked around the small business district during the day and it seemed perfectly safe, almost tranquil. No shortage of decent looking places to eat.

For a border crossing, it is a quiet one. When I walked back to Presidio, there was no line at the US CBP checkpoint. I showed CBP my passport card and was done in 30 seconds - record fastest border crossing ever from MX to US.

I suggest visiting the area during early spring or late fall. May to September would be brutally hot. Ojinaga has a bus station with many buses per day that make the 100+ mile trip to the capital city of Chihuahua, and from there to almost any other place in northern or central MX. Or you could take the 12 hour train trip from Chihuahua city to Los Mochis, Sinaloa via the copper canyon.

This was over 12 or 13 years ago, but when we were visiting the Big Bend area on vacation I thought about us making a crossing at Ojinaga. It was suggested by locals that it just wasn't worth it. Looking back I wish we had. Boquillas MX might be more interesting.

First time I was there was in about 1983, and it was a very quiet, laid back, peaceful Mexican town, although being near the border, it did have a certain "night life" which was not overly conspicuous. But the last last time, maybe less than ten years ago, it had become a sprawling aggressive town full of traffic, unfriendly, expensive. Very busy border crossing, I can't imagine why, there is nothing on the US side, Presidioi then had only one gas station open. And it is literally hundreds of miles to any city on the Mexican side. There is one car per ten or fifteen minutes passing on the highway down towards Durango.

To be quite honest, I think I'd rather be i n almost any other city in Mexico, than Ojinaga,.
