Have you ever done so? Purchasing items (I am interested in electronic devices such as laptops) in USA through a website and ship them to Mexico. What is your experience?

Yes, there are shipping services available here in the U.S. that specialize in shipping small packages to Mexico. These services are usually small family business - gente que tenga familia en Mexico que les ayuden desde alla. I have used these services para mandar cajas a Mexico y a Colombia. I have never had any problems, the service I use is run by a couple here en San Jose and they are reliable. Any large city in the U.S. should have similar service because every large city has a lot of Mexicans. Suerte pues!

With current exchange rates and increased MEX inventory, you may find what you like IN Mexico.

You can use a shipping forwarder, there are several online that are huge companies handling millions of packages. They give you a US address, you order on whatever website and ship to that US address, then they ship it to whatever country. It works just about everywhere except places like Iran, N. Korea, Afghanistan, etc.

Example = https://www.myus.com/
