In looking at this MX forum there does not appear to be many posting who live in Mexico. What are the best expat forums for those considering retirement in Mexico on a shoestring?

Those forums are ok, but a lot of the people who do actively post live in the same couple of towns so don't expect much help if you are trying to do things cheaper than average. Best advice is found in Facebook groups, get yourself invited to a few of them in cities that you are interested in. You'll will find more useful information and can ask more specific questions in those.
