I also hear people say Tijuana is a dirty place to live. Yes, it can be. But I think all the benefits outwieigh the bad. You are looking for long-term rental, but you do not specify how you want to live in TJ. 675 is a lot of money to spend, especially depending where you live. If you are commuting over the border everyday, then it would be a good idea to live close to it. I prefer, and lived in a mexican neighborhood, and felt completely safe. I lived near the University near the Otay Mesa Border, but usually took the San Ysidro border crossing, though it had ten times more cars, it was quicker getting through. There are lots of cheap rentals available, and probably would be best if you got out of your car, grabbed a couple of tacos and started walking the residential streets. I lived in a two-level 3 bdrom gated home, and it only cost 450 a month.

If you are genuinely interested in moving there, like most places in the world, if you show an interest in the language and the people, and don't act like a tourist, you will have loads of fun, and feel completely safe.

Bear in mind that a US passport will be needed to return across the border.

You are close to Otay...I would look there on Mexico side. Most do not spend money to advertise but will place a sign "Se Renta" in the window or out in front.

Credit will be NO problem...only credit needed is PESOS or DOLLARS.

They probably will ask for some months in advance as with Mexican Law it is hard to evict someone once they are in the dwelling. The Law benifits the tenent over the Landlord.

I know that for a fact...my Mexican wife had a problem with some squatters in Cuernavaca on a vacant lot next to our weekend house. They built a shack on the lot. I took some pictures of what they did for the Court/Judge.

You would best drive up and down some streets and look for a "Se Renta" sign.

As to the amount...anything from $250 and up sounds about right (I'm south of Rosarito) of course depends on the type of dwelling for the rent asked.

Not sure about furnished or unfurnished as I own my own built home here.

A condo above me was for Lease at one time for $500 a month. They have a large current sign out front. No traffic here and as such NO exposure and NO advertising means it's empty.

As to the pit bulls...leave them behind as you may be asking for a headache.

Steve
