I'm considering relocating. What are the best reason to move to the Miami FTL area?

Thanks
Joe

If you find a top paying job in Miami, move here. If not, stay where you are. In Miami the job market it's very tough. Employers are extremely demanding and they are paying the worst rates in history. I'm exaggerating, look for jobs at www.employflorida.com, you'll see the pay is really low and the cost of living here is pretty high.

JM, I just got back from visiting relatives in Miami and I was appalled to say the least about the job market there. In a city of about 3 million, the advertised job openings in the newspaper amounted to about 2 half pages in advertising in the Sunday paper-and don't rely on Monster or other web sites as those job openings are mostly temp. agencies fishing for roster spots. Unless you have a solid job, don't move to Miami as the wages are ridiculously low and the only inexpensive items are food and more food. Also, many friends and relatives I spoke to are either losing the crappy jobs they have or are already unemployed. I would hang tight for a bit and look elsewhere if I were you.

Since when did Miami's population skyrocket to 3 million? Are those the new census numbers?

They are probably including Broward County in their 3 million.

Yes, a lot of times they like to include the tri-county area in their numbers, but when the new census comes out I'm sure they'll be very close to that number-how else can the state of Florida account for 18 million + in population, with Miami being the largest city population-wise?

that'd make it 4 - 5 million. Dade itself has 2 milion, but the city of Miami doesn't reach the 500,000

Miami is not the largest city in FL population wise, Jax is.

Best reason to move to Miami? The weather.

Coconut, you have your numbers crossed. Miami is the largest city population-wise in Florida, Jacksonville is the largest city area geographically. Have you even been to Jacksonville? It has three buildings in its downtown! For you to make such a comment shows your lack of knowledge (or reality) with facts relating to Florida.

Jacksonville's population is 813,518. Miami's is 433,136. Granted a good portion of Jax's metropolitan area is within the city itself (hence Miami has a large metro area with a relatively small city proper), but Jax is indeed the largest city in Florida by any stretch.
