So, got the renewal for my unit a week ago. Its 50 bucks cheaper than the previous year if we renew :S

Anyone else's rent go down? Boy do I hate economic depressions but they are great if you can maintain your business/job.

My sister dropped her tenants rent, just to keep the tenant another year.

Was the lower rate because you were an existing tenant renewing or are rates for new renters also lower?
You are right though that in a recession when prices drop it is good news if you keep your job because the money should go farther. Of course, the extra anxiety most people experience generally isn't worth it. Also, if the company you work for has let some people go it generally means those who are lucky enough to keep their jobs are doing more work.

Well we are existing renters and did tell them if we are coming and going. The new rate was just lower *shrugs*

Rates for new people are FAR cheaper than they were when we moved in.

And yes, things are more stressful for people at work and even if you own a business.

I've been a 2/2 renter in the same bldg since 2006 in the brickell area.

2006-7: $100 increase
2007-8: $50 increase
2008-9: $300 decrease
2009-10: Flat
2010-11: $50 increase

So I'm still paying less for my current lease than 2006. But for me, rents have inched up this year, partly because 2/2s are scarcer than 1/1s in my area.

In my previous post I mean to say we did NOT tell them if we are going to stay or leave.
